Trains

The kings of long range transport.

circle-info

Always make sure you have a Power Pylon placed nearby so your devices can work!

Locomotives

These are the king of long range transport! They are also available pretty early on in the tech tree since they only require red and green science! In order to setup a train you will need two Train Station Devices, a ton of vanilla Minecraft rails and 1 locomotive. Once you place both train stations you can place a rail path connecting the too, similar to belts.

These are connected together via rails!

Now that these are stations are linked together you should name one pickup and one drop off! Using the device information button!

Device information in device UI, you can left click this icon to name the station name!

Once you have them named you can then add a locomotive to the station easily by dropping a locomotive on the an open rail! Which is any rail icon at the top of the train station UI!

By dropping a locomotive on the rail in the UI the locomotive will become parked at this train station!

Once you have a locomotive at the train station you can now manage it by hovering over it and left clicking it! It is a good idea to give it a name so you can identify it!

Left clicking the locomotive will allow you to edit the locomotives pickup and drop off location! You will also get to control settings like if the train waits until its full or empty, or if it simply goes to the next stop after some time. Make sure you give your locomotive a name!

Virtual Connections

You are likely playing on a server where you can't reasonably connect two train stations together or you can't protect the entire rail line, or maybe you just want to save time. In this case you can use a virtual connection to connect two stations. Keep in mind, this will cost more rails then it would if your physically connected them and in addition to this, virtual connections require a bit of gravel. However making the connection is very simple if you have these! Just left click the Virtual Settings button to manage connections. You can add rails and gravel to the station by right clicking that icon. When making connections the station will consume those rails and gravel. However if for some reason the connection is removed you will be given back those items.

Fueling

In order to fuel your locomotives you will need to place a vanilla Minecraft barrel underneath the train station. When trains get low on their fuel they will consume fuel from the barrel beneath the train station. However trains run off coal, charcoal or solid fuel! So you will need to supply the barrel with either.

You don't need a mover to attach the fuel barrel! Just slap it straight under it! However you can use movers to insert fuel into the barrel!

Locomotive Storage

Locomotive storage works in a specific way. The top row of the UI is used as filters for that column. So in the example image below, the second slot has a dirt block in it, that means all of those slots are reserved for dirt only. Same applies to slot 4 with the diamond. However you'll notice that the first slot has no item on the top. That means its a wild card slot, so any item may go in that column, even ones we have reserved slots further in the inventory. If the train is set to leave when full, that means the train will leave when its reserved slots are full if there is any. If you don't have any reserved slots, then the train will wait for the entire inventory to fill. In the example image the locomotive is set to leave when full, so once the diamond column fills then the train will depart.

circle-info

Trains take items into their inventory from the station once the stack is at max size. This is why it can take awhile for trains to depart depending on what the train is waiting for.

Take The Train

You can actually hitch a ride on a train to its destination by shift left clicking the locomotive in the UI of the train station. The train has to be docked at the station for this to work, and then you have to wait for its travel time to complete. Once it arrives at the destination, you will teleport to the destination. This is super useful when your traveling to far away outposts. You could also just use this as an easy way to get around your world.
